West Bengal BJP and Left Front called a 12-hour state wide bandh on 30 April 2015 and the issue of the bandh as stated by both is to protest against "terror and violence" by the ruling Trinamool Congress in the just-concluded civic elections.
The BJP also urged state Congress to call bandh on the same day against the same issue.
West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee urged people to oppose the bandh called by Left parties and BJP on 30 April 2015 and warned that the administration will take strong action against those participating in the bandh.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said "In Bengal our stand is clear that there will be no bandh, no strike. We are against bandh and strike. Administration will take strong action against those who will go for bandh. We won't let them stop the growth of Bengal."
State government has directed its employees to report for duty on 30 April, Wednesday. Principal secretary of finance department, H K Dwivedi said "In view of the call given by some political parties for bandh/strike all over the state on April 30, it has been decided that all state government offices including those provided with grants-in-aid by the state government would remain open and all employees should report for duty on that day." He further said: "The governor has been pleased to decide that absence of employees on that date will be treated as 'dies non' and no salary will be admissible unless such absence is covered by genuine grounds (as mentioned in finance department memorandum on March 6, 2012)," it added.
