Barrackpore
Barrackpore is one of the oldest towns in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Barrackpore is situated at the bank of river Hooghly (Ganga). The history behind the name Barrackpore is due to first major military base of the East India Company. Previous name of Barrackpore was Chanak and the name is found in Manasa Mangal. Name of Barrackpore will remain in the history of India for ever due to Sepoy Mutiny in 1857.

Parmadan Deer Park in North 24 Parganas
Parmadan Deer Park in North 24 Parganas is situated at 28 km. away from Bongaon and nearly 120 km. from Kolkata. This is a wild life sanctuary and bears the memories of great Bengali writer Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay. The name of this Deer park is now changed to Bibhuti Bhushan Wildlife Sanctuary. Parmadan Deer Park has more than 1000 spotted deers. It is an ideal place for weekend tour and picnic. Parmadan Deer Park has a children park also.
How to reach Parmadan Deer Park: – Direct buses are available from Sealdah to Nalguri bus stand. Again by train from Sealdah, reach Bongaon and then from Bangaon to Nalguri by bus. From Nalguri, Parmadan deer park is walkable distance.

Chandraketugarh
Signs of civilization in Chandraketu garh is found on the days of 3rd century B.C. Chandraketugarh is located inNorth 24 Parganas disteict in West Bengal and this location is very attractive for its historical importance. Proof of civilization is Maurya and Palas are found here. Chandraketugarh is 50 km. away from Kolkata and it can be a weekend tour for people interested in ancient time history. Many ruined old temples, fort, mosques are still visible here.

By road one can reach Chandraketugarh via Barasat and it takes nearly two hours. The first stoppage would be Barachampa. In Barachampa there is Khanamihirer Dhipi where the remains of an ancient temple is found. It is believed that this temple was constructed by the Palas and believed to be the most valuable archaeological find of Chandraketugarh. Chandraketugarh is a good picnic spot also.
Another attraction of Chandraketugarh is an incomplete mosque which is located at Haroa. Haroa was the home of the legendary Pir Gorachand. According to local myth, Sun God ordered Pir Gorachand to construct a mosque but the condition was that it should be constructed in one day, from one sun rise to another rise. Followers of Pir Gorachand tried very hard but the mosque was not completed. Till today, the mosque is incomplete.
There is another famous mosque at Haroa, Lal Masjid. Darga of Pir Gorachand is located near the Haroa bus stop.
How to reach Chandraketugarh
Buses are plying between Esplanade, Ultadanga and Barachampa in regular intervals. Chandraketugarh is located in the Kolkata-Basirhat-Barasat route. From Barachampa, local modes of transport are available.
