West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee earlier in the month declared that helicopter services will soon be launched in many towns in three districts of West Bengal. The areas chosen for helicopter services are Asansol and Durgapur in Bardhaman district, Haldia in Purba Midnapore district and Raichak in South 24-Parganas district, State government has taken many plans for the growth of industrialisation in West Bengal and helicopter service would help people traveling from one place to another in minimum time. The industrialists can gain maximum from this service as it will consume less time. There are many industries in Asansol and Durgapur and both have the potential of further growth.
As per report from a Bengali TV channel, state government has decided to utilise this proposed helicopter service for the growth in tourism industry in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee is very much interested to promote tourism in West Bengal in the map of world tourism. She dreams that someday Digha will be as famous as Goa in the field of tourism. West Bengal government is planning to introduce helicopter services from Kolkata to Digha, Maldah, North Bengal for tourism purpose. From Kolkata, one can reach Digha within 30 minutes via helicopter service and this service may start from the end of December 2011.
