In North Kolkata. Still the traditional Durga Pujas can be seen. With the change of time, we have changed ourselves but in North Kolkata still the flavour of ancient Bengali culture can be found, specially in Durga Pujas.
Baghbazar Sarbojonin Durga Puja is almost a century old Durga Puja in West Bengal. From 1919 to 1923, the Durga Puja was celebrated at Sarkar-House, 55,Baghbazar Street at the junction of Nebubagan Lane and Bagbazar Street and at that time the Puja was famous as "Nebubagan Baroyari Durga-puja". During this period, the location of the puja mandap was changed repetadely. In 1924 the puja was shifted at the junction of Bagbazar Street and Pashupati Bose Lane. Again in 1925, the puja location was at Kantapukur and in 1927 Durga puja was arranged at Bagbazar Kali-temple.
Gradually eminent Bengali personalities joined this organization and the organization gathered strength. In 1929, an exhibition was arranged during Durga Puja. In 1930, Durgacharan Bandyopadhyay of Calcutta Municipal Corporation was elected as the president of this organization and he continued the exhibition with a different concept, to spread the independence movements and Swadeshi among the countrymen. The name of the organization was also changed to Baghbazar Sarbojonin Durgotsab and exhibition. The exhibition place was at the place Durganagar of today.
Netaji Subhash Ch. Bose as a Mayor of Calcutta was associated with this organization.
