In 2016 assembly election, Sukumar Mahato of Trinamool Congress won Sandeshkhali assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Nirapada Sardar of CPI (M).
In 2011 assembly election, Nirapada Sardar of CPI (M) won Sandeshkhali assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Padma Mahato of Trinamool Congress. Nirapada Sardar got 66,815 votes, Padma Mahato got 62,583 votes and Sukumar Sardar of BJP got 17,425 votes.
