Previous Bangaon is now Bangaon Uttar and Bangaon Daskhin.
In 2011 assembly election, Surajit Kumar Biswas of Trinamool Congress won Bangoan Dakshin assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Anuj Baran Sarkar of CPI (M). Surajit Kumar Biswas got 87,677votes, Anuj Baran Sarkar got 65,788 votes and Arun Halder of BJP got 5,243 votes.
