Sanskrit College was established in 1stJanuary, 1824 and affiliated to the University of Calcutta. The college occupied a prestigious position at the time when Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was the Principal of the college. Admission in Sanskrit College is open to all students irrespective of their caste and creed. Sanskrit College offers academic excellence in Eastern Philosophy, ancient Indian History and ancient Indian Language in Pali and Parkrit. It has focused on social, cultural and religious development of students contributing to the Bengal Renaissance.
