Kalimpong is situated in the Mahabharata Range and is of altitude of 1250 meters. During British Colonial educational institutes were built here, for which it is well known. It is located in the place which is surrounded by the Teesta River. The region has temperate climate. Wide production of flowers is made here including orchids and flower bulb, tubes and rhizomes made out of the orchids are exported. The native habitants, Nepalese and people from various parts of the country live here. It is a religious place which follows Buddhism.

Flora and Fauna at Kalimpong
Aracia, cinnamon, ficus, bamboo, cacti and cardamom are grown in the hilly areas. Rhododendrons, oak, birch, maple, alder, Poinsettia and sunflower are found in the temperate deciduous forests. Animals found here are Red Panda, Clouded Leopard, Siberian Weasel, Asiatic Black Deer, barking deer, Himalayan Tahr, goral, gore and pangolin. Birds such as pheasant, cuckoos, minivets, flycatcher, Mayans, orioles, owls, parakeets, partridges, sunbirds, swallows, swifts and woodpeckers are found here.
