This engineering college was previously known as College of Textile Technology (CTT). This is one of the pioneer Textile Technology colleges in India. In this article you will get information about this college.
The Textile Technology College was established in the year 1927. At that time the college was known as Government Silk Weaving and Dyeing Institute. With the passage of time, name of the college has been changed several times and the location of the college is also changed. Once it was known as Bengal Technological Institute and then Berhampore Textile Institute. In 1958 the college was upgraded to a degree college and the name was again changed to College of Textile Technology.
From 2001 onwards other courses were introduced in this college and in 2002, the name of the college was once again changed to Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology.
In 2004, the Textile Technology department of this old reputed institute was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation.
This engineering college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and affiliated to WBUT.
Although this college B.Tech courses in 4 different streams, still the college is popular as College of Textile Technology or CTT.
Textile Technology is the glamour of this college. This college is one of the best engineering colleges in the state as well as in the country and that is due to it’s B.Tech in Textile Technology course. Students of Computer Science, Mechanical and Electrical engineering streams are lucky enough to study in an almost century old college of the state.

How to reach the college
Berhampore is well connected with other parts of the state via train and bus. Berhampore has two railway stations, Berhampore Court and Khagra Ghat railway station. Berhampore Court is in Sealdah line and Khagra Ghat railway station is in Andal route. From both Khagra Ghat railway station and Berhampore Court station, the college can be reached easily. Rickshaw is the main local transport service here.
Berhampore bus terminal is located at the centre of the town and Berhampore is well connected with other parts through private and state buses. From the bus terminal the college is at walking distance and the boys’ hostel of this college is visible from the bus terminal.
