Gorumara National Park

Jalpaiguri has many attractions for tourists. A large portion of Jalpaiguri district is under forests which has made Jalpaiguri one of the most tourist attractions spot in West Bengal so far as wildlife safari is concerned.

Gorumara National Park is situated on the bank of rivers Murti and Raidak and surrounded by many ethnic villages. Gorumara National Park is the source of income of many people of the nearby villages through employment in forest department jobs or tourism.

The dark forest with Sal, Teak, Shirish, Shimul trees and bamboo groves attract tourists from different parts of the country. Best Time to Visit the forest is between November and March.

Gorumara National Park has different species of mammals, birds, reptiles, turtles and fishes.

Mammals in Garumara National park:

 Indian Rhinoceros, One horned rhinoceros, Gaur, Asian Elephant, Sloth bear, Chital, Sambar, Giant Squirrels, Hispid Hare and Sambar Deer, Barking deer, Hog deer, Wild boar, Leopard are there in this park.

Birds in Garumara National park:

Bird lover tourists will definitely enjoy Garumara National park as different types of birds with rare species can be seen here. Some of them are Scarlet Minivet, Sunbird, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Spangled Drongo, Great Indian Hornbill and many more migratory birds.

Rare Brahminy Duck is also found here.
