Consecutive Incidences of Rape in West Bengal

Reported rape case in West Bengal is in alarming stage. Since February 2012 many incidences of rape case in different parts of the state is reported.  Governor of West Bengal has expressed his concern over rapes in the state.

In recent time the state was rocked with the rape case of Park Street where an Anglo-Indian woman of 37 years old was raped in a moving car. After the rape the victim was thrown out of the car. Initially Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to accept it as a rape case but the truth is ultimately revealed. The main accused who has raped the woman is still absconding.

Soon after the rape case at Park Street, another case of rape and murder happened at Baranagar. At Katwa a woman was dragged out from a train and alleged gang raped.

The latest rape case reported is at Bankura medical College where a deaf and dumb girl has been alleged raped by a junior doctor. The junior doctor has been arrested.

Rape is a social crime and everybody should condemn such crime on women. Rape or molestation of women in West Bengal was never below the average rape case in our country. Such type of crime is not desirable and the number of rape case in the state must come down to zero. State administration has to take necessary steps. What is strange over the rape cases of recent time is that Chief Minister hesitates to accept the truth. The common people of West Bengal want government to take quick and strict actions in case of any reported rape.
