One of the oldest first grade colleges in West Bengal, City College was established in the year 1881, recognized by UGC, affiliated to the University of Calcutta and accredited by NAAC. Name of famous Bengali personalities are associated with this college. Ananda Mohan Bose, Pandit Sivnath Sastri and Umesh Chandra Dutta were among the founders of this college. Surendranath Banerjee worked in this college as a teacher.
