Buxa National park is in Alipurduar sub-division of Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. This national park was set up in 1982-83 and was declared as a National Park in January 1992. It is under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. Buxa National park is located at the north eastern end of West Bengal surrounded by Bhutan and Assam. Buxa Tiger Reserve is located inside the national park.
The name is derived from Buxa Fort - a fort on the Sinchula Range. Buxa fort is associated with freedom movement of India. Local people sentiment is associated with this fort.
Flora and Fauna
Buxa is the heaven for nature lover tourists. Buxa has a collection of different species of trees, herbs, orchids, bamboos, grass, aquatic floras. Still a large part of Buxa hills is unexplored. The main trees here are Sal, Champ, Simul etc.
Buxa has the a great collection of different species of birds, snakes, mammals. Tigers, elephants, bears, civets, giant squirrel, Gaur, Chital, leopards, wild buffaloes are found in the forest of Buxa.
Different species of birds and butterflies including migratory birds are there in this forest. The migratory birds can be found in the rivers, Raidak and Jayanti, flowing through this forest.

It is surrounded by deep forests, mountains and the river Jayanti with an amazing river bed on the India-Bhutan Border, all are tourist attractions. Buxaduar to Jayanti is 13 km trek which passes through the forest of Buxa Tiger Reserve. Jayanti River is the natural border with Bhutan hills. Popular Mahakal cave is in this region.
Rajabhatkhawa: Rajabhatkhawa is 12 kms from Jayanti. It is 153 km from Siliguri and 17 km from Alipurduar. This location can be reached either by road or rail. Rajabhatkhawa is surrounded by dense forests of Buxa tiger reserve and it is an ideal place for tourists who love wild life. There is a watchtower inside the forest from where elephants, bisons and tigers can be viewed. Rajabhatkhawa has a small rail station. Accommodation is available at Rajabhatkhawa in forest rest house and private lodges.
