About Belur Math
Belur Math was built originally by Swami Vivekananda in the year 1898. It symbolizes harmonisation of religions as preached by Sri Ramakrishna. It is the Headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission. Sri Ramakrishna is worshipped here. It conducts activities like medical service, rural uplift, work for women and backward classes, spiritual activities etc.
The Architecture of Belur Math
The temple has an architectural importance among the modern temples of India. Swami Vijnanananda designed the temple and ideas came from Swami Vivekananda and Swami Shivananda. , Architecture of the temple has the influence of famous monuments like Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Shirkri, Diwan-I-Khas and modern architecture like Medieval, Gothic and Rennaissance styles. Foundation stone of the Belur Math was laid on 16 May 1935 and the construction was made by Martin Burn & co. The Belur Math is also known as the “Symphony of Architecture”.

Belur Math is situated on the bank of Ganga which constitutes with temples dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Swami Brahmananda. The Ramakrishna Museum in Belur Math contains valuable artifacts used by Sri Ramakrishna Deb, Swami Vivekananda, Sarada Devi and other disciples.

How to reach Belur Math
The temple is located Belur, 16 kilometres from Kolkata, West Bengal. Belur is well connected with other parts of the state. Bus routes are available to reach the place. Howrah-Bardhaman local train passes through the Belur railway station. One can go to Belur Math via train service also.
