History of Bankura Christian College

Bankura Christian College is established by the Weselyan Missionary Society in 1903. In 1907, this college was approved by Calcutta University. Initially this college started with Intermediate Arts (I.A.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) courses. Gradually other curriculums like Intermediate Science (I.Sc.), Honours curriculum were started in this college. I.SC. started in 1911-12 while Honours in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics started in 1921-1922.  Within very short period of time this college became famous for imparting education to students of this district and surrounding districts.  Students from other states like Bihar also enrolled in Bankura Christian College in ancient past.

Bankura Christian College is the first college to initiate co-education in West Bengal and the first woman graduate passed from this college in 1910.

Hostel facilities for college students

Bankura Christian College has four hostels for it’s students. Three for boys and the other for girls.

Brown hostel, Mitchell hostel and B.M. Chatrabas is for boys. The only hostel for girls is Mother Teresa Hostel.
