Ayodhya Hills – a heaven for rock climbers



Ayodhya Hills of Purulia is approximately 700 m high. This is one of the most tourists attraction place in Purulia district, West Bengal. Name of the Ayodhya Hill has nothing related with birth place of Lord Rama. The name came from the name of a local zamindar, Ayodhya Sngh. But there is a Sita-kunda and local myth is that the Sita-kunda is related to Lord Rama. They believe that Lord Rama and Sita arrived and stayed in this place during their exile time. One day Sita felt thirsty and Lord Rama created the Sita-kunda wth his arrow for water.

Ayodhya Hills is an extension of the Dolma Hills of Jharkhand. The scenic beauty of the location is mind blowing.  Dales, tall trees, springs, tranquil lakes, a river and freshness in air attracts tourists from different parts of the state.  Ayodhya Hills also attracts rock climbers and trekkers. College students used to come here in group for short trip tours. Recently this area is very much disturbed. Maoists are using the hill and surrounding areas for their hidden shelter.  We can simply hope that this hill will be again attracts tourists in future.

Santhal women collect woods from this Ayodhya Hills. They normally come to the hill to collect wood in group. The women carrying heavy loads of wood on their head, walking in a line and singing folk songs is a worth seeing while in Ayodhya Hills. People living in city or towns can visit places like Ayodhya Hills to see how simple life the tribals are livng here.

Bamni Falls in Ayodhya Hills is another worth seeing spot. Best time to visit Ayodhya Hills is during tribal festivals in Purulia district.

How to reach Ayodhya Hills – transport services


There are several trains from Howrah to Purulia. Bus services, both government and private are availabl from Kolkata and other parts of the state to reach Purulia.
