Previously Ranaghat was divided into two assembly constituencies-Ranaghat East and Ranaghat West. From assembly polls 2011 onwards Ranaghat Uttar Purba is a new assembly constituency.
In 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal, Ashim Biswas of BJP defeated his nearest rival Samir Kumar Poddar of Trinamool Congress. Ashim Biswas got 116,786 votes and Samir Kumar Poddar got 85,004 votes.
In 2016 assembly elections in West Bengal, Samir Poddar of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Babusona Sarkar of CPI (M).
In 2011 assembly elections in West Bengal, Samir Poddar of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Archana Biswas of CPI (M). Samir Poddar got 93,836 votes and Archana Biswas got 62,644 votes.
